Film studies – anno 2013
Last year, during summer and autumn 2013, me and Olof Hedling (Lund university) were part of an evaluation committee at Universitetskanslerämbetet (The Swedish Higher Education Authority). The task was to evaluate the subject of film studies – together with five other humanities disciplines (musicology, art history, theatre, fashion and textile studies). A while ago we published a short piece in the Journal of Scandinavian Cinema, describing the experiences and knowledge we gained as members of this national committee to evaluate the ‘academic quality’ of univerity film programmes and the current state of the academic field of film studies as practiced at various sites of higher learning in Sweden.
