Remarks on a failed film archival project
This article assesses the currently on going infrastructural research project around filmarkivet.se, a Web site devoted to historical Swedish nonfiction film. As a co-operation between researchers and film heritage institutions the project has until now been a failure due to conflicting archival interests and preferences. Film scholars need open online archives and contextual re-sources, while (some) heritage institutions still seek to give access to a curated filmic past. Co-operations between the heritage sector and scholars are regularly envisioned as being commonly beneficial. Yet, when film archives start hunting for clicks, research interest are being neglected.
